2016 Indy Spartans Family Picnic/Student Send-Off
Join the Indy Spartans for a picnic in the park on July 31st!
State Park Admission: $7 per in-state vehicle/$9 per out-of-state vehicle
Activities during the picnic will include scholarship awards presentations, picnic games for all ages and fun for the kids. Lunch and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided.
If you can, we ask that everyone please bring a dish to share. Last year we ended up with too many of the same dishes, so this year we will try to organize a little better.
If your last name starts with the letters:
A through M: please bring a dessert
N through Z: please bring a side dish (salad, fruit, chips, etc.)
For those interested, alcohol is permitted in the park for guests age 21 and over. We ask that you remember this is a family event and small children will be in attendance. Please monitor your beverages to ensure the safety of Spartans under age 21.
Fort Harrison State Park has restrooms and a playground right near the picnic shelter. Come early or stay late to enjoy the park’s paved and rustic trails for hiking and biking, fishing access, and more!
Bring your family and tell your Spartan friends! Please RSVP! See you there!
** You do not need to print the Eventbrite tickets **
Lauren Coon is once again organizing our annual family picnic on July 31st. If you are interested in volunteering to help her with planning, set up, clean up, etc. please email Lauren! Thanks!
2016 Scholarship Winners
The Indy Spartans are pleased to announce our 2016 Scholarship winners.
The winner of the Sherri Phillips Memorial Scholarship is Nikaela Losievski. Nikaela won this scholarship in 2015 as well. In the fall, Nikaela will be starting her sophomore year at MSU. She resides in Granger, IN. While studying Neuroscience at MSU she also finds time to volunteer, tutor, and be a member of clubs. This coming semester Nikaela will be doing research with an MSU professor to analyze how people perceive sound and speech differently. She is a busy young lady who is extremely deserving of the Sherri Phillips Memorial Scholarship. We can’t wait to see what she accomplishes during her sophomore year!
The winner of the Indy Spartans Scholarship is John Supan. In the fall, John will be starting his freshmen year at MSU. He resides in Crown Point, IN. John plans to major in Journalism with an emphasis on Broadcasting. He spends many hours volunteering in his community. His passion is broadcasting. He was named the Best Radio News Anchor in the State of Indiana by the Indiana Association of School Broadcasters and most recently won an Emmy Award for sports play-by-play. John is extremely deserving of the Indy Spartans Scholarship. We look forward to hearing about his accomplishment during his freshmen year!
Congratulations to both Nikaela and John! Thank you to the Indy Spartans Scholarship Committee for the time they put into reviewing the applicants and selecting the winners!

They will donate $30 per person to our scholarship fund as long as we have at least 20 people attend. The downside is they will be taping Thursday night, April 28th (technically Friday morning from 12:30-4:30am). There are six spots remaining. Volunteer Opportunity
Check out all the details on the Indy Spartans volunteer projects on Saturday, April 16th.
Project #1 – Animalia – This project is open to the first 20 people to register here. Must be 14 years old and over. Volunteering is from 1:00pm – 5:00pm. If you can’t volunteer for this project, see how else you can help this Spartan run non-profit charity.
Project #2 – Indy Urban Acres Farm – **Cancelled due to too much water in the field.**
Project #3 – Keep Indianapolis Beautiful: Neighborhood Clean Up – This project is just west of downtown (near Washington St and Holt Rd) so we are hoping our downtown and westside Spartans will volunteer for this one. The neighborhood has many elderly residents who are not able to help so they need our help. They have paired up with Steak n Shake (3810 W Washington St, Indianapolis, IN 46241) and volunteers will receive free chili. The project is open to the first 20 people to register here. There is no age restriction. Volunteering is from 8am – 11am.We hope that you will volunteer at one of our projects!
